Smithsonian Folkways presents a musical tour of the 32 countries participating in Brazil this summer. Bookended by a samba and a bossa nova, characteristic Brazilian dance rhythms, this playlist presents signature sounds from each nation, spanning six continents, forty instruments, and a dozen languages. Smithsonian Folkways strives to feature each country’s quintessential sound rather than crown a musical champion, presenting cultural identities in addition to athletic ones.
