Play Party Dances and Ice Breakers for Young Folk

Piute Pete
Play Party Dances and Ice Breakers for Young Folk Square dance, sometimes called square dancing, came to America with English settlers in the 1700s. A dance is usually composed of four couples but can be expanded into larger groupings. Dances are directed by a caller who provides spoken instructions for each dance. Square dance experienced a revival in the mid-20th century. On this recording, veteran square dance caller Piute Pete calls nine dances. Among the most well-known traditional songs and dances heard here are “B-I-N-G-O” and “Shoo Fly.” Spoken dance instructions, along with illustrated instructions for each dance, are included in the liner notes.
