Smithsonian Folkways Trivia!

Each month we’ll ask a trivia question; e-mail your answer, name, and address with the subject "March Trivia" to SmithsonianFolkways@si.edu by March 17, and a randomly selected entrant with the correct answer will win a free CD of his or her choice!

March Question: What reedpipe aerophones, known as the national pipes of Ireland, are played with bellows inflated by the elbow rather than the mouth (like the Scottish Highland bagpipes)? Hint – hear Willie Clancy play this instrument on “Trip O’er the Mountain” on Classic Celtic Music.

Congratulations to last month's winner, Norman Leer from Madison, WI, who correctly answered “Cab Calloway” to the question: “Hi-De-Ho! Ella Jenkins cites which jazz singer and bandleader as her inspiration for using call-and-response in children’s music education?”
