This summer, experts at Smithsonian museums and the zoo have each picked what they consider their “most seriously amazing” item as their champion in this year's Smithsonian Summer Showdown bracket.

“Seriously amazing” is something that can describe most of the recordings, albums, and musicians in the Smithsonian Folkways catalog, but Lead Belly may top the chart. The master of the twelve-string guitar, singer, and songwriter sang his way out of jail (twice!), and went on to become a music legend.

We need your help sharing that amazingness with the rest of the Smithsonian. Vote today to ensure that Lead Belly advances to the next round. Voting for Round One ends Wednesday, August 12.
