Lula Wiles signs to Smithsonian Folkways

Smithsonian Folkways is thrilled to announce the signing of Lula Wiles. The trio of multi-instrumentalists Ellie Buckland (vocals/guitar/fiddle), Isa Burke (vocals/guitar/fiddle), and Mali Obomsawin (vocals/bass) will be following up their much-admired self-titled debut (2016) with their next album, coming soon. Their deep traditional folk roots combined with fiercely honest, contemporary songwriting strikes the right balance between being old-time torchbearers and Americana innovators. Smithsonian Folkways has always supported bold artists with fresh perspective, and now, especially during our 70th anniversary, we are excited to introduce the world to Lula Wiles.

The three friends have played together since childhood, attending Maine Fiddle Camp, and then honing their craft at the Berklee College of Music. They have become staples of Boston’s esteemed folk community, and beyond, touring and sharing stages with Sarah Jarosz, Tim O’Brien, Aoife O’Donovan, and many others.

Comprised of truly skilled vocalists, players, and songwriters, Lula Wiles is one of the most refreshing Americana bands around; catch them on the road throughout the rest of the year, including an appearance at Newport Folk Festival’s Outside Folk program, Green Mountain Bluegrass & Roots Festival, and more. Follow them on their site, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, as well as all of Smithsonian Folkways’ channels to stay up to date on new music, tour dates, and more!
