"Single Girl" was one of the six songs recorded by talent scout and record producer Ralph Peer during their initial recording session in Bristol, Tennessee on August 1, 1927. It was Sara Carter's performance of this song that convinced Peer to offer the Carters a recording contract (John Atkins, The Carter Family, London: Old Time Music, 1973, pg. 6).
