Russian Favorites

Organized in 1970 by Paul Kovriga, the Kovriga Balaliaka Orchestra has performed the music of Russia and Eastern Europe for many years. In this 1978 recording, the orchestra performs a variety of songs ranging from traditional Russian folk melodies to an interpretation of Mussorgsky’s “Great Gate of Kiev” from “Pictures at an Exhibition,” and Maurice Jarre’s “Lara’s Theme” from the movie Dr. Zhivago.
