Master of Afghani Lutes Noted Afghanistan musician Aziz Herawi plays both the dutar and rubab on this recording. He learned to play the dutar, a long-necked 12- or 14-string instrument, clandestinely as a child. His second instrument, the rubab, is a short-necked double-chambered lute, considered to be one of the national musical instruments of Afghanistan. Living in California since 1985, Herawi has been sharing Afghani music with a worldwide audience. Liner notes include background information about the music on the album.
