Acclaimed by Time Magazine as a leader of the onda nueva (new wave) of Latino music during the 1960s and 1970s, Roberto Martínez and his group Los Reyes de Albuquerque (The Kings of Albuquerque) are recognized for artfully blending the musical flavors of mariachi, ranchera, TexMex, and corridos (narrative folk ballads) with traditional New Mexican music, establishing a modernized New Mexican sound.
